River Cleanup Drive
to Ensure a Cleaner and Healthier Environment
For over five and a half years, the Swachhatapukare Foundation has been devoted to keeping the Swarnrekha River clean. Every week, dedicated volunteers gather at the riverbank with gloves and bags, driven by a commitment to environmental care. Their goal is to change citizens’ behaviors and ensure a cleaner environment for future generations. These weekly cleanups have established a reliable routine, fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness among locals. This consistency has led to a cultural shift towards cleanliness and environmental consciousness.
The foundation’s efforts extend beyond immediate cleanliness. Over time, they’ve influenced citizens’ waste disposal habits, instilling pride in maintaining a clean environment. Local schools and colleges have also joined, with students participating in cleanups as part of community service. Engaging the younger generation is crucial, as it builds environmental responsibility early on.
Looking ahead, the foundation aims to expand its reach, involving more communities along the river and launching educational programs to boost environmental awareness. They plan to collaborate with other organizations to tackle pollution at its source and promote sustainable waste management practices.
